Ijen? Where Is It?

Many of you may never hear about Ijen before. It’s actually a mountain located in Indonesia. To be exact, it’s located in East Java. Geographically speaking, Ijen Mountain lies in three regions: Bondowoso, Banyuwangi and Situbondo. However, the entrance gate is located in Paltuding, Banyuwangi. Now, the question is: what’s special about Ijen? In case you have never heard about it before, Ijen has the most beautiful crater you can find on earth. To be honest, there’s only another crater which can be said as beautiful as Ijen and it’s located in Iceland. Both craters are so special thanks to the blue flame coming out from it.

It’s actually a kind of rare natural phenomenon and that’s why it’s highly recommended for you to go to Ijen to witness its awesomeness especially if you want something new and unique for your next travel.

Due to the uniqueness of the blue fire, thousands of travelers are willing to hike the mountain just to witness the blue fire which can only be seen right before the dawn starts. That’s when the condition around the crater is the darkest and that’s how you can see the blue fire clearly.

How to Get There?

I believe at this point, you’re interested to go to Ijen, right? How can you reach Ijen Crater? The easiest way is to reach Belimbing Sari Airport first which is located in Banyuwangi. Or you may want to ride train to go to Banyuwangi. From Banyuwangi, you can try to go to Licin. This is actually the first check point before you enter the mountain area and it’s always a good thing to make Licin as your temporary place to stay. Thankfully, there are some resorts you can find there. From Licin, you can head your direction to Paltuding which should take about an hour of travel.

And then, the real deal has come. Once you have reached Paltuding, you can start hiking to the crater area. The hiking should take about 2 hours. The terrain is actually not really that hard so you should not worry if you are not an experienced hiker. However, make sure you are really well-prepared. Remember that Ijen blue fire can only be seen before dusk. And by considering the duration of the hiking, you should start hiking in the middle of the night or at 01.00 a.m. at the latest. Make it certain you wear really warm clothes because it’s going to be freezing there. But, whenever you have reached the location and see the blue flame coming out of the crater, all of the struggles will be paid out as the scenery will blow your mind away.
